Picante Salsa
Finding a good picante sauce south of Mexico is challenging and when you do it is ridiculously expensive (as are many of the convenience foods we're used to). This recipe makes a great substitute for the Pace Picante Sauce we bought at home.
- Ingredients
- 1 14 oz. can chopped tomatoes - with Jalapenos if you can find those
- 1/2 can of water
- 1/2 medium yellow onion, chopped
- 1/2 red or green bell pepper, chopped
- 1 fresh jalapeno with seeds, chopped (canned is ok)
- 1/8 cup white vinegar
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1/2 Tbsp. dried onion flakes
- 1/4 tsp. garlic powder
- Put everything in a small pot and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer about 30 minutes until it thickens to your desired consistency.
